Biography
Mary was born on March 4, 1853 [8]. Her parents, John and Margaret (Rutherford) McLeod moved from the family farm on Lot 8, Concession 13 (just north of Rugby, ON) to the town of Orillia in 1853. It is unknown if Mary was born on the farm or at their home on Matchedash street in Orillia. When Mary’s mother passed away, she inherited the family home on Matchedash Street in Orillia. She took in boarders to earn money and took Margaret Elsie Blair (sister Katherine’s family) in to live with her as the Blairs had so many children to care for. Elsie soon considered Mary’s home her own. When she was tired of visiting her parents and siblings she would ask to be taken “home”. When Elsie was a teenager she returned home to her parents and Mary sold her home to pay for her brother George to go to Medical School in Cleveland. Mary moved to Cleveland in 1897 to live with her brother George [14]. Elsie missed her aunt dearly and her brother, George Blair, went down to stay with Mary and George in Cleveland and attended Medical school. Mary Died in 1922 and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Cleveland, OH.
