Biography:
From the newspaper death notice:
At Rest. After months of intense suffering there passed away to his rest on Sunday morning on of Orillia’s first born sons, Mr. William R. McLeod, at the age of 41 years. Mr. McLeod was the eldest son of the late John McLeod, and was born in the house in which he died, and where the family have resided since his birth. When quite a young man the deceased went to the Northwest with Messrs. Oliver & Co., who had the contract for building the Mounted Police barracks at Fort Pelly, Edmonton, and other places. It is supposed that during this time he contracted the kidney trouble from which he suffered for a great many years and which finally caused his death. In his youth Mr. McLeod was fond of all kinds of sport and was one of the pioneer lacrossists of the town. A singular incident is related in this connection. In ’72 and ’73 the Orillia Lacrosse club won the “Championship of the North,” and a large picture was taken of the champions by a local photographer. Of the fourteen young men who composed the group, Mr. McLeod is the first on whom death’s mantle has fallen. The deceased spent the greater part of the past two years on his couch, suffering intensely, but at all times cheerful and happy. The remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of sorrowing friends.
From the 1891 Census, it lists William as a wine clerk.
